Description

'Fire & Ice' is one of the most exciting Hosta to come along, in a long time. It is a reverse sport of the widely admired 'Patriot' and forms attractive compact mounds of twisted, striking pure-white leaves edged in a rich green. The dense mounds of foliage are topped with very pretty, long-lasting, lavender flowers in summer that your hummingbirds and butterflies will appreciate.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing in a clump 14 to 16 inches tall and up to 2 feet wide, the Fire & Ice Hosta is ideal for use as an accent, in groupings, massed as a groundcover, or as border along walkways and paths in shady landscape borders. We have no problem at all suggesting Fire & Ice for use in home foundation plantings. It is perfect under large shade trees, decks, covered porches and any other shady location. Don't think you have any shade? Look on the east side of your home. Excellent for use in pots, planters and other containers and a fine addition to mixed hosta gardens, hummingbird gardens, woodland gardens, and white theme gardens.

Spacing:  15 to 18 inches for mass plantings; 36 inches or more for space between plants

Growing Preferences

Fire & Ice Hosta is easy to grow in most any moist but well-drained soil of average fertility and shade or part shade. Morning and evening sun and all-day filtered sun or dappled shade are fine, but avoid the direct afternoon sun. No pruning necessary though spent flower stems can be removed after flowering.
