Description

As with all the varieties in the Fruit Snacks® Columnar Apples family, 'Tangy Green' is easy to grow and care for due to its narrow 10 to 14-foot-tall and 3 to 5 feet wide columnar form, which makes it an ideal choice for small spaces and large containers, and its cold tolerance and reliable disease resistance. As with other apples, you will need to plant two different varieties for pollination and heavy fruit set. Tangy Green features loads of pretty pink buds that open to blush pink to white flowers in spring that are followed by full-size lime green apples. If the fruits of the green Granny Smith apple are too tart for you, and you prefer sweetness, the almost perfectly round fruits of the Tangy Green combine sweet, tart, and crisp all into one delicious apple that can be eaten fresh off the tree or used in baking. With a stately upright form, beautiful flowers, fast growth rate, and LOADS of pretty, tasty fruits, Tangy Green is sure to be a captivating conversation piece and, as its name suggests, an tangy delight as well.

Wildlife Value
The bloom pollen from apple trees is beneficial for bees as a food source in spring.

NOTE: As with all of our other plants and trees, all of our fruit plants are grown in containers outdoors so they are fully rooted and landscape-ready upon arrival.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing 10 to 14 feet tall and 3 to 5 feet wide with a columnar form, the Fruit Snacks Tangy Green Columnar Apple is ideal for use as a specimen or in grouping and rows in sunny landscape and woodland borders. Its narrower form makes it perfect for growing in containers that can be situated on or around sunny patios, decks, and other outdoor sitting and living spaces. It is also lovely for espalier (planted and trained to grow flat against a wall), and is a fine addition to bird and wildlife gardens, edible landscapes, and cottage gardens.

Suggested Spacing:  4 feet for space between trees

Growing Preferences

The Fruit Snacks Tangy Green Columnar Apple grows best in moist, well-drained soil of average fertility and full to mostly sun; six or more hours daily for the heaviest flower and fruit production. Plant a different variety of apple tree for pollination. Established trees are drought-tolerant. Light shade is tolerated, but morning sun is a must.
