Description

Thuja plicata 'Daniellow,' commonly known as Golden Spire Arborvitae, is a spectacular selection that doesn't suffer sunburn. It forms a narrow, glowing column 15 to 20 feet tall and 4 to 6 feet wide, perfect for a focal point specimen, to frame the corners or an entrance to a tall home, in a spaced grouping, or for a privacy screen where space is limited. Its aromatic, fern-like sprays of rich golden-yellow foliage have soft orange overtones. A low-maintenance and easy-to-grow evergreen is great for adding outstanding year-round color to the sunny landscape.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing 15 to 20 feet tall and 4 to 6 feet wide, the Golden Spire Arborvitae is ideal for a colorful vertical accent in sunny landscape borders and home foundation plantings. It can also be planted in spaced groupings or as a privacy screen where space is limited. It is suitable for growing in large containers but eventually may need to be transplanted into the landscape. A fine addition to conifer gardens, yellow theme gardens, and rock gardens.

Suggested Spacing:  3.5 to 4 feet apart for solid privacy screen; 8 feet or more apart for space between plants

Growing Preferences

The Golden Spire Arborvitae is easy to grow in most any moist but well-drained soil of average fertility and full sun to light shade. We suggest six or more hours of sunlight daily for the best and brightest foliage color. In hot summer climates, some filtered sun might be appreciated during the afternoon when the sunlight is most intense. Constantly soggy or wet soils can be problematic. Maintenance is minimal, with very little, if any, pruning ever required.
