Golden Tower Elderberry (Sambucus) - 3 Gallon Pot
Description
Spacing: 3' for hedges, 6'+ for space between plants
A striking addition to the landscape, the Golden Tower Elderberry forms a tall, lush column of soft-textured, lacy golden leaves that resemble those of laceleaf Japanese maples. At 10 to 12 feet tall and 3 to 4 feet wide when fully grown, its narrow form makes for a good fit as a vertical accent in smaller spaces and home foundation plantings. It is also suitable for growing in containers. In the spring, it produces large, flat clusters of white flowers, followed by black berries the birds will enjoy. Hardy in USDA Zones 4-8, it grows moist, well-drained soil and full sun in cool or mild summer climates but prefers filtered sun or shade during the midafternoon in hot summer climates. You might also be happy to know it's deer-resistant.
Note: The fruit of this variety is not considered edible.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 10 to 12 feet tall and 3 to 4 feet wide, the Golden Tower Elderberry is ideal as a vertical accent or focal point in small garden spaces and home foundation plantings. It also serves well in groupings or as a hedge where space allows. It is suitable for large containers of 18 inches or more in diameter situated on patios, decks, and around other outdoor sitting and living spaces. It is a fine addition to butterfly and pollinator gardens, yellow theme gardens, native gardens, Asian gardens, and cottage gardens.
