Description

One of the finest landscape Camellias that we've come across, 'Hana Jiman' produces an abundance of eyecatching white flowers with crinkled petals marked with fuchsia-pink along the edges. A burst of ontrasting bright yellow stamens reach out from the center are an extra-added bonus. Its dark green leaves provide a wonderful backdrop and contrast of color for the flowers. Enjoy this beauty indoors by displaying several cuttings in a vase or use just one flower to float in a bowl of water.

Landscape & Garden Uses

A taller growing Camellia sasanqua with an upright habit of growth to about 8 to 10 feet tall and 6 to 8 feet wide, Hana Jiman can be grown as a shrub or small tree. As a shrub, it is ideal for use as a hedge or background plant, in groupings, and is nice as espalier (trained to grow flat against a wall.) As it grows, lower branches can be removed to form a small tree that serves well as a small, very attractive specimen tree in landscape borders and home foundation plantings. Great for cottage gardens, cut flower gardens and woodland borders. Also suitable for containers. A fine addition to Camellia gardens, Azalea gardens and cottage gardens.

Spacing:  5 feet apart for solid hedge; 10 feet or more apart for space between plants

Growing Preferences

Camellia adapt well to various soil types however prefer a moist but well-drained acidic soil that is rich in organic matter and part shade. Avoid direct afternoon sun as this can scald the leaves. Morning and/or evening sun or all-day filtered sun is fine.
