Description
If you love the native orange Butterfly Weed, say hello to 'Hello Yellow,' its yellow flowering cousin. As with its cousin, Hello Yellow is exceptionally low-maintenance and easy to grow. It produces abundant clusters of nectar-rich flowers in vibrant golden-yellow shades that many species of butterflies flock to over a long blooming period from late spring through mid to late summer, depending on location. Deadheading spent flowers can encourage rebloom into fall. Additionally, the leaves are a must-have food source for monarch butterfly larvae (caterpillars). Other beneficial pollinators and hummingbirds also visit the flowers. The flowers atop long stems are excellent for cutting and long-lasting display in a vase or flower arrangement. Following the flowers are seedpods valued for their use in dried flower arrangements. Gardeners in USDA Zoners 3a-9b can enjoy growing this virtually hassle-free perennial.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 24 to 30 inches tall and 24 inches wide or more, Hello Yellow Butterfly Weed is ideal for use as an accent in smaller garden spaces or grouped where space allows in garden beds or along paths and walkways. It is suitable for use in moist landscape areas but tolerates drier sites once established. It is a fine addition to butterfly gardens, beneficial pollinator gardens, hummingbird gardens, yellow theme gardens, cut flower gardens, bog gardens, perennial gardens, wildflower gardens, and cottage gardens.
Suggested Spacing: 18 to 24 inches apart for mass plantings; 4 feet or more for space between plants

Growing Preferences
Butterfly Weed is exceptionally easy to grow and care for. It grows best in moist, well-drained soil of average fertility and full sun to part shade. Too much shade and flowering will be diminished. At least 5 hours of direct sunlight per day is suggested for best flowering. It has high drought tolerance once established, though it may appreciate supplemental water during extended periods of summer drought. Plant it with the top of the root ball even with ground level. Care and maintenance are minimal. Feed in spring with organic plant food.
