Description
At only 18 to 30 inches tall and equally as wide, Invincibelle Wee White is the first and only true-dwarf Hydrangea arborescens, commonly known as Smooth or Annabelle-type Hydrangea. This little gem reaches 18 to 30 inches tall and wide, making it a perfect fit for small garden spaces or containers. As with its larger growing cousins, Wee White features large, cloud-like flower clusters from early summer through frost! The flowers emerge soft-green or soft-pink before turning to white, held atop sturdy stems that won't flop, making them excellent for cutting and displaying in fresh or dried flower arrangements. Being a North American native species, Smooth Hydrangea are some of if not the easiest to grow in the United States. Versatile and floriferous, Wee White is also incredibly cold hardy, withstanding temperatures down to -40F in USDA Zone 3 and as far south as Zone 8.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing in a rounded mound 18 to 30 inches tall and equally wide, Invincibelle Wee White Hydrangea is ideal as an accent shrub in small garden spaces and containers, where it will bloom early summer to frost. It can also be planted in groupings or as a low hedge in landscape borders and home foundation plantings. It is a fine addition to Hydrangea gardens, cutting gardens, white-theme gardens, and cottage gardens.
Suggested Spacing: 2 feet apart for solid hedges; 4 or more apart for space between plants
Growing Preferences
Invincibelle Wee White Hydrangea is easy to grow in moist, well-drained soil with average fertility and full sun to part shade in cooler northern zones 3 to 6 and part shade (morning sun with afternoon shade or filtered sun) in warmer southern zones 7 to 8b. We suggest at least 5 hours of sunlight per day, preferably in the morning and late afternoon and evening. Constantly soggy or wet soil is problematic.
Pruning Tip: In early spring, just as the new growth begins to emerge on the stems, cut the plant back by about one-third its height. That's it!
