Description
Living up to its name, the Irish Bell Bosnian Pine has a broad pyramidal form shaped like a bell. Adding maybe 6 inches in height and width per year and reaching 10 to 12 feet tall and wide, it features dense, tufted foliage with straight, dark green needles and glistening white fascicles that look like lights at the tips of the stems. An exceptionally handsome and ornamental pine that deserves a spot in every sunny garden where it will grow: USDA Zonesa 5-8 in cool or mild summer climates and 5-7 in hot summer climates.
Landscape & Garden Uses
The Irish Bell Bosnian Pine is ideal as a focal point specimen or spaced grouping in sunny landscape borders. It is also a lovely accent tree in home foundation plantings and can be grown in containers situated on or around patios and other outdoor sitting and living spaces. It is a fine addition to rock gardens, conifer gardens, and the Xeriscape (low water needs when established).
Growing Preferences
The Irish Bell Bosnian Pine is easy to grow in almost any moist but well-drained soil of average fertility and full to mostly sun, preferably 6 hours or more direct sunlight daily. Young trees will require moisture to develop a sound root system. However, established trees are highly drought-tolerant. Does not like a constantly soggy or wet soil. It does not require pruning to maintain its dense form.
