Description
A mophead Hydrangea that can take the cold to -40F in Michigan and the heat down to Zone 9 in Florida, the flower buds of Let's Dance Sky View have the ability to conserve its old wood flower buds in the face of extremely cold conditions. It also produces flower buds on the current new season growth for continuous blooms throughout summer and fall! You decide the flower color. An acid soil creates sky-blue with a golden-green eye before turning to a full sky blue. Neutral to alkaline soil create soft pink or lavender. If the first flush of flowers emerge pink, this variety is very easy to turn blue. Simply apply aluminum sulfate to acidy soil and change pink blooms to blue, or apply pelletized agrucultural lime to sweeten soil to change blue flowers to pink. With a compact and rounded form to 2.5 to 3 feet tall and 3 to 4 feet wide when all grown up, Sky View is the perfect size for smaller garden spaces and containers that can be situated on patios, decks or around other outdoor sitting and living spaces. In larger spaces it is ideal for use in groupings or as a colorful hedge.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing naturally in a rounded mound to around 2 feet tall and maybe 3 feet wide, the Blue Jangles Hydrangea is ideal for use as an accent in smaller garden spaces or as a solo or combined with other plants in container gardens. In larger spaces it is stunning in groupings or as a low hedge in landscape borders. Also an excellent colorful accent or grouping in home foundation plantings. A fine addition to Hydrangea gardens, cut flower gardens, blue or pink theme gardens, and cottage gardens.
Suggested Spacing: 2 to 2.5 feet apart for solid hedges; 5 feet or more apart for space between plants
Growing Preferences
The Sky View Hydrangea is very easy to grow in most any moist but well-drained soil with average fertility and full sun to part shade in northern zones and part shade, morning sun with afternoon shade or filtered sun, in southern hot-summer zones. For best flowering, we suggest 4 hours or more of direct sun light per day. As with so many other ornamental plants, a constantly soggy or wet soil is problematic.
Note: You choose the flower color. An acid soil will create blue shades while a neutral to alkaline soil creates pink shades. Anything in between makes purple to lavender shades. Learn more about soil pH and how to adjust it.
Pruning: Sky View is an everblooming Hydrangea macrophylla species that produces its flowers from buds formed on both old wood from the previous fall and new growth in the current summer. Therefore, it's best to avoid pruning, or prune as you would an Endless Summer Hydrangea or other everblooming hydrangeas.
