Description
Looking for a plant that is bold and striking with large leaves that will provide a tropical feel, but will still fit into small gardens and patio spaces? Meet 'Little Prince', unlike it's monster cousins that can top out at up to 20 feet, all grown up this hardy little guy might reach a maximum of 3 feet in height. A true garden royalty, and also year round houseplant, it rapidly develops an 8 to 10 inch thick trunk crowned with a canopy of very large green leaves flecked with red. This plant is a perfect addition to container gardens or for mixing into flower beds for an upright accent. It's interesting to note that the smaller the container you plant it in the smaller the plant stays. For example, in an 8 to 10 inch pot it might grow to only 18 to 24 inches tall.

Growing 2 to 3 feet tall and wide, the Little Prince Banana is ideal for use as a specimen or in groupings in landscape borders or flowerbeds. Perfect for use as a centerpiece in combination container gardens. Especially nice around swimming pools, patios, decks and other outdoor living spaces.

Growing Preferences
Little Prince Banana is listed as cold hardy to Zone 7, however, in locations further north containers can be moved inside to a garage or other interior space that remains above freezing during cold periods.
Little Prince Banana is very easy to grow in most any moist but well-drained soil of average fertility and full sun to light shade. When growing in containers, choose a pot with a drainage hole(s) and use a quality potting soil or potting mix or a 50/50 combination thereof. In USDA Zone 7, to provide some extra protection during winter we suggest the application of a 4 inch layer of shredded wood mulch or straw mulch around the plant. The mulch can be thinned to 2 inches after all chances of a late freeze in spring have passed.
