Fast growing, reliable and attractive, 'Meyer's' forms a dense grove of very upright, closely spaced, smooth and shiny super-strong canes with evergreen foliage that is perfect for a privacy screen to a height of 25 to 30 feet. Growing Preferences
Meyer's Bamboo will grow well in full sun or part shade or even dappled shade and prefers a moist but well-drained soil of average fertility.
Meyer's is a running bamboo, which means it spreads. Bamboo can be controlled in a small area (a normal city yard) simply by mowing or stepping on the young shoots. Keep in mind that running bamboo only puts up new shoots for a short time each year and, when they are "shooting," the new plants are very fragile and easy to destroy. New shoots of some bamboo can also be used for culinary purposes and cooked, much like asparagus. Root pruning or a Bamboo Root Barrier are other methods to control spread.
