Description

An attractive focal point that puts a tall exclamation point on the landscape, and sure to be a conversation piece, the 'Miles High' Weeping Deodar Cedar is an excellent evergreen for adding height to the landscape. It's narrow, weeping, columnar form allows it to fit in smaller spaces where its much larger growing cousins won't fit. A moderate grower that might reach 10 to 12 feet tall and 3 feet wide in 10 years, and upwards of 30 feet tall and 6 to 10 feet over the long term, it has a tall central leader and graceful weeping branches covered with attractive greyish blue-green needles. Though it grows upright, it might have a little twist here and there and an occasional occasional arm that reaches out to to demonstrate its individuality from the rest of the tree. A real show stopper!

Landscape & Garden Uses

With an upright pyramidal weeping form from 20 to 30 feet tall and 6 to 10 feet wide at maturity, the Miles High Deodar Cedar is ideal for use as a specimen or in groupings in medium to large landscape borders. Really nice around bodies of water and around large boulders. Also nice to frame entryways or the corners of tall homes and other structures. Young trees can be grown in large containers but will eventually need transplanting to the landscape. A fine addition to conifer gardens, rock gardens and Asian theme gardens.

Suggested Spacing:  15 feet apart for privacy screens; 25 feet apart for space between trees

Growing Preferences

When planted right and in the right spot, the Miles High Deodar Cedar is very easy to grow in most any moist but well-drained soil of average fertility and full to mostly sun. Established trees have good drought tolerance. As with so many other coniferous evergreens, constantly soggy or wet soil can be problematic. Good drainage is essential. A little shade is tolerated however trees won't be as full. Low maintenance requiring no pruning except to remove a stray or damaged branch.
