Description

Developed and introduced by the USDA, the 'Mini Blues' Blueberry is a northern highbush distinguished by its superior flavor and fruit quality. Intense, candy-like sweet flavor is packed into a small bright blue berry kids love, and adults too! But what the berries lack in size they make up for in abundance by producing high volumes of fruit! With flavor and nutrients mostly stored in the skin of the fruit, the small size of Mini Blues provides a tremendous benefit, especially when used in baking and purees, but is also great for fresh eating right off the bush, in salads, breakfast cereals, and on pancakes and waffles. Excellent for the home orchard or as a specimen, in groupings, or as a hedge in the edible landscape.

NOTE: All of our fruit plants are grown in containers outdoors so they are fully rooted and landscape-ready upon arrival.

Growing Preferences

Blueberry plants grow best in an acidic (pH of 4.8 to 5.2), organically rich, moist, well-drained soil in full sun to part shade. The more sun the better for best berry production. The shallow, fibrous roots of blueberry plants like a consistently moist but well-drained soil which can be provided by with a layer of organic mulch. Although blueberries are self-fertile, cross-pollination produces larger yields. Therefore it is best to plant more than one variety that will bloom around the same time. Blueberry season can be extended by planting early, mid-season and late varieties.
