Description
The Mini Gallery Mix Lupine is a highly floriferous and early-blooming selection featuring beautiful towered clusters of bicolor flowers in pretty shades of blue, red, pink, white, and yellow on shorter plants than those in the Gallery Series. In late spring to early summer, and reblooming if spent flowers are deadheaded, the flowers are born on sturdy stems that rise above the attractive foliage with deeply lobed, palmate, rich green leaves, attracting hummingbirds, butterflies, and other beneficial pollinators. They are also excellent for cutting and display in a vase or flower arrangement. Its more diminutive stature lends well to planting in smaller garden spaces and containers, where its stunning flowers and attractive foliage make this beauty a fine vertical addition to perennial, wildflower, and cut flower gardens. Easy to grow in a sunny location, and you might be happy to know that Mini Gallery Mix is mildew-resistant, and the deer and rabbits also don't bother it.
Lupines typically prefer cool to mild summer climates. If you're in a hot summer climate of USDA Zone 7 or 8, provide some shade during the afternoon when the heat and sunlight are most intense.
Landscape / Garden Uses
Growing 15 to 18 inches tall and 10 inches wide, the Mini Gallery Mix Lupine is ideal as an accent in small garden spaces or grouped in perennial borders. It is a fine addition to butterfly gardens, pollinator gardens, meadow gardens, wildflower gardens, native gardens, and cottage gardens.
Growing Preferences
Mini Gallery Mix Lupine prefers humus-rich, moist, well-drained soil and at least six hours of sunlight daily. For the best bloom and overall performance, side-dressing plants with composted organic matter in early spring and again in early summer is suggested. Constantly soggy or wet soils are problematic. If the flowers are deadheaded through the season, Gallery Blue will bloom from mid-spring through fall. Lupines prefer cool summer temperatures, though we hear this one is more heat-tolerant.
