Description
Every variety in the Magic Crape Myrtle Series series was selected for its ability to produce a profusion of flower clusters in rich, true colors...and with its abundant, large clusters of bright white flowers in summer Moonlight Magic doesn't disappoint! Deadheading spent flowers often prolongs the bloom season well into fall. The dark glossy purple-maroon foliage on this upright but compact Crape Myrtle to 10 to 12 feet tall provides a wonderful backdrop for the bright flowers. A very vigorous grower with excellent resistance to powdery mildew.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing to 10 to 12 feet tall and 6 to 8 feet wide, the Moonlight Magic Crape Myrtle is ideal for smaller garden spaces and in containers. It can be grown as a shrub, or lower branches can be removed to form a beautiful and colorful small tree that serves as a focal point specimen or accent in sunny landscape borders and home foundation plantings. It also makes a very colorful hedge and is spectacular in groupings. Whether planted as a specimen or in groupings, this is one crape that will stand out in the landscape!
Suggested Spacing: 5 to 6 feet apart for solid hedge; 12 feet or more apart for space between plants
Cultural Preferences
Moonlight Magic Crape Myrtle is very easy to grow in any moist but well-drained soil with average fertility and as much sun as you can give it. For best flowering, 6 hours or more of direct sunlight is suggested. Constantly soggy or wet soil is problematic. It has shown excellent resistance to powdery mildew and is quite drought-tolerant when established.
