Description

One the butterflies and hummingbirds will thank you big time for planting, New Vintage Red Yarrow shows off abundant clusters of brilliant ruby red flowers in flat clusters from late spring or early summer continuously through fall. The flowers are held atop sturdy stems which rise above attractive compact mounds of ferny, grey-green foliage and are excellent for cutting and display in a vase or floral arrangement. Though the ferny foliage makes it look delicate, it is anything but. New Vintage Red Yarrow is super heat and drought tolerant when established making it very easy-to-grow in sunny garden beds or containers anywhere in USDA Zones 4-9.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Yarrow grows well in garden beds and containers. Growing 18 to 24 inches tall in bloom and spreading to 12 inches or more wide, New Vintage Red Yarrow is ideal for use as an accent in smaller garden spaces and container gardens or in color groupings to form a patch in larger garden spaces. A fine addition to butterfly gardens, cut flower gardens, cottage gardens and red theme gardens.

Suggested Spacing:  12 inches inches apart for groupings; 30 inches or more apart for space between plants

Cultural Preferences and Planting & Care Tips

Yarrow is very easy to grow in most any moist but well drained soil of average to even low fertility and full to mostly sun. We suggest at least 5 hours of direct sunlight per day for the most flowers. As with many other perennial plants, constantly soggy or wet soils can be problematic. Heavy, dense clay soils should be amended with organic matter to improve drainage. Spent flowers can be removed to encourage more new growth and heavier continual bloom.
