Painted Buckeye (Aesculus Sylvatica) - 3 Gallon Pot
Description
Spacing: 8' for hedges, 18'+ for space between plants
Growing 10 to 15 feet tall and 10 to 15 feet wide, the Painted Buckeye can be grown as a large shrub or lower branches can be removed to form an attractive small tree. It is ideal for use as a specimen or in groupings or mass plantings in sunny to partially shaded flowering shrub and woodland borders. See more sun preference details below under Growing Preferences. A fine addition to North American native plant gardens, shade gardens, partially shaded woodland gardens and red theme gardens.
Suggested Spacing: 8 feet apart for solid borders; 18 feet apart for space between plants
Being a North American Native plant, the Painted Buckeye is very easy to grow and virtually maintenance free when planted right and in the right spot. It grows well in most any consistently moist but well drained soil of average to high fertility, acid soil, and shade or part shade. Will tolerate full sun in zones 4 to 7 but prefers some shade during the afternoon in zones 8. Young plants prefer consistently moist soil though mature plants will tolerate short periods of drought.
