The flowers come year round in subtropical climates where it can be grown outdoors as a specimen or colorful hedge reaching up to 10 feet tall and 5 to 6 feet wide. In cold climates, where temperatures drop below 35 degrees or so, it is best grown as an annual or in containers that can be situated around on or around patios, decks, swimming pools and other outdoor living spaces during the warm seasons and brought indoors during the winter. Suggested Spacing:  4 to 5 feet apart for hedge; 10 feet or more apart for space between plants

Tropical Hibiscus are very easy to grow in a moist but well drained soil of average fertility and full sun to part shade. We suggest 5 hours or more of direct sunlight per day for best growth and flowering. It thrives in hot and humid conditions and prefers a slightly acid to neutral soil ranging from 6.0 to 7.0 on th pH scale. Drught tolerant once established however will appreciate supplemental water during prolonged periods of drought and heat. Maintenance is minimal when allowed to grow naturally to its mature size. It can be grown in the ground year round in USDA Zones 9-11. In Zones 8 and further north it will be an annual when grown in the ground or can be grown in pots of 18 inches or more in diameter that can be overwintered indoors when temperatures start dropping below 45F or so. Plants growing in containers filled with a potting soil or potting mix will require closer attention to water needs. Check soil frequently and provide water when the top 2 inches of the soil has dried. Feed plants growing in containers with an all-purple water soluble fertilizer such as MiracleGro following instructionsw on the product label.
