Description

This is the rare single-trunk tree form version of the 'Pink Pinnacle' Dwarf Chaste Tree. Developed by the University of Georgia to be a perfect fit for smaller garden spaces, it is a dwarf that grows maybe a quarter to a third the size of the species, It forms a 5 to 6 feet high and wide canopy that sits atop a single trunk, making it a very superb specimen for smaller garden spaces and containers, or as an accent tree in home foundation planting. In waves throughout the summer months, abundant salvia-like, long panicles of fragrant, nectar-rich, pink flowers attract hummingbirds, butterflies, bees, and other beneficial pollinators. Refined, sage-scented, gray-green leaves resemble those of the Japanese maple, adding a delicate texture, pleasing color, and sensory appeal to the landscape.

Note: This tree-form version of the Pink Pinnacle Chaste Tree is cold-hardy in USDA Zones 7a-9b. The shrub form is hardy as far north as USDA Zone 5a, although in Zones 5 and 6, it may die back to the ground, much like Buddleia (Butterfly Bush), but will send out new growth in the spring.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing to around 8 feet tall and 5 to 6 feet wide, the Pink Pinnacle Dwarf Chaste Tree is ideal for use as a specimen or two can be used to frame an entrance. Its smaller size makes it suitable for use in large containers. It looks especially nice around garden ponds and other bodies of water, as well as in rock gardens. A fine addition to pink theme gardens, pollinator gardens, bird gardens, and butterfly gardens!

Suggested Spacing:  10 feet or more apart for space between plants

Growing Preferences

Chaste Tree will grow in most average soil, including clay soils. It prefers a moist but well-drained soil; however, it will tolerate temporary wet conditions. As with so many other ornamental shrubs and trees, constantly wet soil can be problematic. Good drought tolerance when established.
