Description
Putting on a long-lasting color show through fall and into early winter, the Pink Serenade Camellia features a profusion of clematis-like showy single flowers with deep pink crepe-like petals surrounding a prominent boss of bright yellow stamens. At 4 to 5 inches across, this beauties flowers are the largest of any sasanqua variety in our gardens. A strong upright habit 8 to 12 feet tall and around 8 feet wide make Pink Serenade a fine selection as a large evergreen flowering specimen shrub or tree for partially shaded landscape or flowering shrub borders.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 8 to 12 feet tall and around 8 feet wide wide, the Pink Serenade Camellia can be grown as a large shrub or small tree. As a shrub, it is ideal for use as a specimen, in groupings or as a hedge or background plant. As she grows taller lower branches can be removed to form a highly attractive small evergreen specimen tree. A fine addition to Camellia gardens, pink theme gardens, cottage gardens, and partially shaded woodland borders.
Suggested Spacing: 6 to 7 feet apart for solid hedge; 12 feet or more apart for space between plants
Growing Preferences
Camellia adapt well to various soil types however prefer a moist but well-drained acidic soil that is rich in organic matter. Constantly soggy soil is a slow killer. In general, Camellia grows and blooms better in partial shade with some shelter from the hot afternoon sun. Morning sun with afternoon shade or filtered sunlight is perfect. All-day filtered sun is fine.
