Description

Named Collector’s Conifer of the Year by the American Conifer Society, 'Pusch' is a slow growing dwarf Norway Spruce that forms an attractive dense mound in the garden. Its most adored feature are the extremely showy and unusual bright red cones that emerge on almost every stem tip in spring. The cones age to a rich brown and continue to decorate the plant throughout the year. With its attractive foliage and highly ornamental cones, make sure to pick of special spot in the garden for this extraordinary evergreen conifer!

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing very slowly to 1 to 2 feet tall and 2 to 3 feet wide, the Pusch Dwarf Norway Spruce is ideal for use as a specimen in small garden spaces, home foundation plantings and conifer or rock gardens. Also excellent for the Xeriscape (low water needs).

Suggested Spacing:  We suggest using this unusual plant as a specimen

Growing Preferences

Pusch Dwarf Norway Spruce is easy to grow in a damp to moist but well-drained soil of average fertility. As with so many other conifers, constantly soggy or wet soils can lead to root rot or other harmful plant diseases. So make sure to plant this one in well-drained soil. It grows best in full sun however in Zones 7a and 8a in the south it will prefer some shade or filtered sun during the middle of the afternoon. Once established water needs are quite low when growing in the ground. In pots, soil moisture will need to be monitored more closely, especially during summer. When the top two inches of soil is dry, provide water.
