Description

A hardy and maintenance-free beautiful shrub anyone can grow, the Reeves Spirea is an old-fashioned favorite flowering shrub that heralds the arrival of spring when its arching branches become literally smothered in clusters of pretty, single or double white flowers. This one has stood the test of time to earn a place in so many North American gardens not only because of its stunning spring flower display, it's also an ultra low maintenance with superior drought, heat and cold tolerance and high resistance to insect, disease, deer and salt. Combines nicely in blooms right along with other early spring bloomers such as Forsythia, Quince, Magnolia Tulip Trees, Native Azaleas, and spring-flowering Camellias.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing in a rounded mound of gracefully arching branches 5 to 6 feet tall and equally as wide, the Reeves Spirea is ideal for use as a specimen, in groupings, or as a natural hedge in landscape and flowering shrub borders. Also makes a nice accent in home foundation plantings to soften corners or fill spaces between widely-spaced windows.

Suggested Spacing:  4 feet for solid hedges;  8 feet or more for space between plants

Growing Preferences

Reeves Spirea is very easy to grow in a wide range of soils preferring a moist but well-drained soil of average fertility. For the best foliage color we suggest full to mostly sun however plants will tolerate some light shade. Prune for shaping or to reduce the size of the plant after flowering in spring.
