Description

Native to the Atlas Mountains of Morocco, as its name suggests, the Sahara Ice Atlas Cedar is a stunningly beautiful evergreen conifer with spaced, weeping branches that are covered in short, stiff, blue older needles underneath icy white new growth, giving the appearance that the branches are coated with ice. Depending on the climate and environment, it typically forms an upright pyramid 10 to 12 feet tall and 6 to feet wide at its base. It is exceptionally easy to grow and highly drought-tolerant once established. You may be pleased to know that insects, diseases, and deer don't bother it. The Sahara Ice Atlas Cedar is a truly magnificent and captivating tree in the landscape, sure to be a conversation piece.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing 10 to 12 feet tall and 6 to 7 feet wide over time, the Sahara Ice Atlas Cedar is ideal for use as a focal point specimen in sunny, small to medium-sized landscape and garden beds. Its more diminutive size makes it a fine accent tree in home foundation plantings. It can also be planted in groupings where space allows. A fine addition to rock gardens, conifer gardens, white theme gardens, and Xeriscape gardens (low water needs).

Growing Preferences

The Sahara Ice Atlas Cedar is very easy to grow in most average, well-drained soils that receive six or more hours of sunlight daily. Standing water or constantly soggy or wet soil can be problematic, so make sure to plant in a well-draining site. Maintenance is minimal with no pruning required. It is exceptionally drought-tolerant when established. We've seen no insect or disease problems.
