Description
Perfect for framing entryways, as an exclamation point, or as a narrow hedge in the landscape or home foundation plantings, the Shadow Sentry Boxwood is a distinct variety with an upright habit and naturally narrow pyramidal form. If never pruned or sheared, you can expect a mature height of around 8 feet and width at the base of 2 to 3 feet. However, with an occasional shearing the plant can easily be maintained at 5 to 6 feet in height shaped as a column or narrow pyramid.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 6 to 8 feet tall and 2 to 3 feet wide depending on pruning, the Shadow Sentry Boxwood is ideal for use to frame entryways or as a vertical accent in the landscape. It is perfect for filling those narrow spaces where height is needed in foundation plantings and as tight, narrow hedge where space is limited. Also very nice as a centerpiece in container gardens, just make sure the pot drains well. A fine addition to formal gardens.
Suggested Spacing: 2 feet apart for solid hedges; 4 feet or more apart for space between plants
Growing Preferences
The Shadow Sentry Boxwood is exceptionally easy to grow when planted right and in the right spot. It adapts to most soil types, preferring a moist but well drained soil of average fertility. As with so many other plants, a constantly soggy or wet soil can be problematic. It prefers mostly sun but will tolerate some shade. In our gardens, we've found it to have exceptional drought, heat, disease and pest resistance. Responds well to pruning.
