Stachys byzantina 'Silky Fleece'

A plant that kids and adults alike just want to reach out and touch, 'Silver Carpet' Lamb's Ear that forms a quick spreading carpet to about 6 inches high of thick, soft and velvety silver leaves that resembles a baby lamb's ears. The leaf color and texture of this plant contrast beautifully with both foliage and flowers of most other types of plants. There's few if any flowers to remove on this one. Thrives in well-drained and even dry soil and full sun, but might appreciate a little filtered sun or shade during the midafternoon in hot and humid climates.

Growing 4 to 6 inches tall and spreading to form a lush carpet to 24 inches or more wide, Silver Carpet Lambs Ears is ideal for use as an accent in small garden spaces and containers or in groupings or as a border along paths and walkways or in landscape borders and perennial gardens. A fine addition to perennial gardens, cottage gardens, white or silver theme gardens, and the Xeriscape (low water needs).

Suggested Spacing: 18 to 24 inches apart for mass planting

Silver Carpet Lambs Ears is easy to grow in most any moist but well-drained soil of average fertility and full to mostly sun. It does not like a constantly soggy soil. In hot and humid climates it might appreciate some filtered sun or shade during the mid afternoon hours. We suggest at least 6 hours of direct sunlight and definitely morning sun to dry the dew from the leaves.
