Description
Bearing an abundance of long flower wands up to 12 inches in length that twist in all directions like sparklers being waved around, it's no wonder the name given this variety. The sweet scented creamy white flowers of 'Summer Sparklers' Summersweet, formerly known as 'Einstein', appear in profusion during the hottest part of summer, and are a favorite of hummingbirds, butterflies and other beneficial pollinators. The bright flowers stand out beautifully against the glossy, oval-shaped dark green leaves that turn yellow in fall. Exceptionally versatile and easy to grow, this North American native shrub is right at home in moist to boggy soils and full sun to mostly shade. More compact than the species, Summer Sparkler grows in a rounded mound 3 to 4 feet tall and equally as wide.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 3 to 4 feet tall and equally as wide, Summer Sparkler Summersweet is ideal for use in sunny landscape beds with moisture retentive soil, though will tolerate dry periods and a fair amount of shade.
