Adored for its beautiful, soft textured and colorful foliage, the shade-loving Sunflare Japanese Forest Grass is native both to moist mountain areas including wet rocky cliffs and to moist woodland areas in central Japan, including areas around Mt. Hakone from which both its genus name and common name are derived. It features an 18 inch tall by 2 feet wide waterfall-like mound of golden to golden-chartreuse leaves that as they age develop deep red to burgundy or maroon. Leaves have a papery texture resembling the leaves of some types of bamboo. Excellent as a solo or accent in container gardens or as a border or in groupings along shady paths or garden beds. Especially nice around garden ponds, near streams or patios, porches and other outdoor living spaces where it's destined to be a conversation piece.

Growing to around 18 inches tall and slowly spreading up to 2 feet wide, the Sunflare Japanese Forest Grass can be grown in garden beds or containers. It is ideal for use as an accent in smaller garden spaces or in groupings or as a border along walks, paths or around patios and other outdoor living spaces. Nice as a solo or mixed with other plants in pots, planters and other containers. Looks especially nice around garden ponds and is a fine addition to ornamental grass gardens, yellow theme gardens, Asian gardens, shade gardens, and rock gardens.

Suggested Spacing:  18 to 24 inches apart for mass plantings; 4 feet or more apart for space between plants
