Description
Bears large, quartered rosettes, each about 4” across, packed with loosely arranged petals. They are a beautiful shade of pure apricot, paling towards the edges. There is a lovely Tea fragrance, with hints of cedar wood and vanilla. Named for Plant Heritage, who do so much to protect Britain’s garden plant diversity.
The Lady Gardener is among the most disease- and heat-resistant and incredibly floriferous of the David Austin English Shrub Roses. In nearly continuous flushes from Spring to frost, an abundance of large, fragrant, quartered, full-petaled rosettes in lovely shades of apricot paling towards the edges with a strong, Tea rose perfume with hints of cedar wood and vanilla. The flowers are excellent for cutting and displaying in a vase. Standing up to heavy rains, The Lady Gardener reaches about 4.5 feet tall and 4 feet wide, making it an excellent choice as a specimen in smaller gardens, flowering shrub borders, or as a hedge. She is a perfect choice for planting around patios and other outdoor sitting areas where her beautiful flowers and wonderful fragrance can be enjoyed from close up.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing to 4.5 feet tall and equally as wide, the Lady Gardener English Shrub Rose is ideal for use as an accent, in groupings, or as a hedge in sunny borders and garden beds. It is also lovely in containers that can be situated on or around patios, decks, and other outdoor sitting and living spaces. A fine addition to cottage gardens, orange theme gardens, cutting gardens, antique and old-fashioned gardens, and fragrance and sensory gardens.
Growing Preferences
The Lady Gardener English Shrub Rose is easy to grow in most any moist but well-drained soil of average or above average fertility and full to mostly sun for the best flowering. That said, some lightly filtered sun during the midafternoon hours is okay, especially in hot-summer climates. As with all other roses, morning sun is a must to dry the dew from the leaves. Flowering will be best if the plant receives at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day.
