Description
This is the single-trunk tree form of the Tom Thumb Globe Arborvitae, a compact evergreen suitable for small garden spaces and container gardens. It is a slow-growing American arborvitae cultivar with a distinctive, globular form, 2 to 3 feet in height and width, that sits atop a 24-inch-tall trunk. It features attractive, dense, medium green foliage in flat sprays. An adorable patio tree that is sure to draw attention year-round. No pruning is necessary, though it responds well to light shearing for an even more tight, formal appearance.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 4.5 to 5 feet tall and 2 to 3 feet wide, the Tom Thumb Arborvitae Patio Tree is great for use as a specimen in smaller garden spaces or as a centerpiece in containers surrounded by low-growing, trailing plants such as ivies or petunias. Two can be used to frame and accentuate an entrance. It is a fine addition to conifer gardens, rock gardens, miniature gardens, topiary gardens, and formal gardens.
Suggested Spacing: Best as a specimen or use two to frame an entrance
Growing Preferences
Tom Thumb Arborvitae Arborvitae is easy to grow in moist, well-drained soil and five or more hours of sunlight daily. It does not like an overly wet or dry site, though it is moderately drought-tolerant when established. Maintenance is minimal, with very little, if any, pruning ever required to maintain its rounded form. A light shearing can be performed on occasion to maintain a tighter, more formal, spherical shape.
