Description

A superior variety used by Italian and Greek chefs, True Greek Oregano is a highly aromatic and flavorful herb that adds superb zest to fresh tomatoes or tomato sauces, pizza, omelets, marinated vegetables, meat, fish, and poultry dishes. A hardy and easy-to-grow perennial herb in USDA Zoners 5 to 9, True Greek Oregano forms a nice rounded mound or low hedge up to 18 inches tall and 2 to 3 feet wide in the garden. It prefers a sunny to partially shaded spot with well-drained soil. It can also be grown in containers and indoors as a houseplant in a well-lit room. In summer, abundant clusters of white to pink flowers rise above the foliage attracting butterflies and beneficial pollinators. Harvest fresh leaves right before you'll use them. Otherwise, dry and store the leaves for later use.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing 18 to 24 inches tall and 24 to 36 inches wide, True Greek Oregano is ideal for use in garden beds or as a border along paths and walkways. Also nice as a solo or mixed with other plants in pots, planters and other containers. Plant it near patios, decks, porches and other outdoor living areas where the attractive and aromatic foliage and pretty flowers can be enjoyed from close up, and the leaves are more convenient for harvesting. A natural choice for herb and culinary gardens and a fine addition to fragrance gardens, cottage gardens and rock gardens.

Growing Preferences

Oregano is easy to grow in most any somewhat loose and moist to somewhat dry soil of average fertility and full sun to part shade. We suggest at least 5 hours of direct sunlight per day. Harvest fresh leaves right before you'll use them. Otherwise, dry and store the leaves for later use.
