Description
A native to the mountains of Turkey, Turkish Blue Veronica sports some of the showiest blue flowers of any creeping perennial groundcover plant. In spring, and repeating in late summer with adequate moisture, loads of very cute four-petaled flowers in shades of periwinkle-blue nearly cover the low 2 to 3 inch mat of dense, evergreen foliage. Upon closer observation you'll notice the flowers have white eyes, and the petals have darker "whiskers" resembling those on viola flowers. A dependable and fast grower, but not invasive at all, Turkish Blue is lovely as a low border, as a massed groundcover around shrubs, small trees and other plants, and to fill the gaps between stepping stones. Can also be useful like creeping thyme is for a lawn substitute. This one will thrive in full sun in cool-summer climates but will appreciate some afternoon shade or filtered sun in hot-summer climates. USDA Zones 4a-8b.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 2 to 3 inches tall and spreading to 18 inches or more Turkish Blue Veronica is ideal for use as a low border along garden beds or paths and walkways where it will also fill the gaps between stepping stones. Also excellent as a groundcover and underplanting for shrubs, smaller trees and perennial plants. Bulbs plants will pop right through it in spring. We've even used it as a crevice filler around the boulders surrounding the garden pond and for a lawn substitute. It's not impressive as a stand alone in containers but makes for an excellent soil cover and spiller. A fine addition to cottage gardens, butterfly and beneficial pollinator gardens, rock gardens, and blue theme gardens.

Growing Preferences
Turkish Blue Creeping Veronica is easy to grow in a moist but well drained soil of average fertility and full sun or part shade. In hot-summer climates it will appreciate some shade or filtered sun during the afternoon hours. For heaviest flowering we suggest at least 5 hours of direct sunlight per day. It will handle dry periods once etsblished but not a constantly soggy soil, which can cause root rot. That said, with adequate soil moisture the plant will rebloom in summer
