Description
A diminutive and colorful Boxleaf Honeysuckle, Lonicera nitida 'Twiggy' is a petite selection that's a perfect fit for smaller spaces or miniature hedges. When left to grow natural it forms a cute, dense arching mound to 2 feet tall and 2 feet wide in 10 years or so, but can be maintained at half that size with occasional clipping. The dainty boxwood-like leaves are a golden yellow with 6 or more hours of direct sunlight per day ora glowing chartreuse to platinum blonde with less sun. In milder areas of its range (Zone 8-9) the foliage is generally evergreen however might be semi-evergreen to deciduous in colder climates of Zones 6b-7b.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing up to 2 feet tall and equally as wide without pruning, or smaller with occasional trimming, the Twiggy Boxleaf Honeysuckle is ideal for use as an accent in small garden spaces and container gardens or in groupings where space allows. Because it responds well to shearing, it is a good candidate for a low formal hedge, formal shapes such as globe or sqaure, and even bonsai. A fine selection for Asian or English gardens, formal gardens, topiary gardens, yellow color theme gardens, or container gardens.

Growing Preferences
The Twiggy Boxleaf Honeysuckle is very easy to grow in a moist but well-drained soil of average fertility and full sun in zones 6 and 7 however prefers some filtered sun during the midafternoon hours in hot-summer climates of zones 8 and 9. Foliage will be brighter yellow with more sun and glowing chartreuse with more shade. It prefers conistent soil moisture when growing in full sun in hot claimtes. Responds very well to shearing for topiary shapes and formal hedges. In our gardens, we've found it to have excellent resistance to pests and disease.
