What We Like About This Plant

When most of us hear the word "boxwood" we think about a neat, rounded shrub or clipped formal box hedges, right? But that all changed for us when we were at a nursery convention and laid eyes on 'Unraveled', a unique Boxwood that has an intriguing arching form with weeping branches. Naturally growing in an arching mound 3 to 4 feet high and 5 to 6 feet wide, the branches will cascade beautifully over a wall or down an embankment. When trained to grow more upright it has an even more dramatic weeping habit perfect for accentuating an entryway or in a pot. Exceptionally cold hardy to -20F, the shiny dark green foliage remains year round with little to no bronzing. Definitely a conversation piece in the garden!

In Your Landscape

Growing to 3 to 4 feet high and 5 to 6 feet wide or more, the Unraveled Weeping Boxwood is ideal for use as an accent, in groupings or mass plantings, or in staggered or straight rows as hedges in home foundation plantings and landscape borders. Also a very nice solo or centerpiece in container gardens and a fine addition to formal gardens and Asian gardens.

Suggested Spacing:  4 feet apart for solid hedge or groupings; 8 feet or more apart for space between plants

Growing Basics

The Unraveled Weeping Boxwood is exceptionally easy to grow adapting to most soil types, preferring a moist but well drained soil of average fertility. As with so many other plants, a constantly soggy or wet soil can be problematic. It grows well in full sun or part shade. In our gardens, we've found it to have exceptional heat and humidity tolerance, disease and pest resistance, and good drought tolerance when established.
