Description

This is the spiral topiary form of Buxus sempervirens 'Variegata', a soft-textured Boxwood featuring bright green leaves that are edged in white, giving the plant an almost all-white appearance from a distance. A slow to moderate growth rate means very low maintenance to keep its spiral form. We trim ours in spring after new growth has full emerged. At that time, we trim the new growth back by half to two-thirds its length. Excellent for use in design as an eye-catching specimen, two to frame an entryway or in spaced groupings.

Landscape & Gardens Uses

Growing 3 to 5 feet tall and 1 to 2 feet white depending on pruning, the Variegated Boxwood spiral topiary is ideal for use as a distinctive specimen in the ground or in containers in small to medium size spaces. Two can be used to frame an entryway or 3 or more can be used in spaced groupings. A fine addition to topiary gardens, formal gardens, English gardens, and cottage gardens.

Growing Preferences

The Variegated Boxwood spiral is very easy to grow and requires minimal pruning to maintain its spiral form. It will grow in a wide range of soils but prefers a moist, well-drained loam in full sun to part shade. We trim ours one time a year after the new spring growth has full emerged. At that time, we trim off about half the length of the newest, current seasons growth.
