A Clematis that will always have you looking forward to summer when its foliage becomes literally smothered in a profusion of adorable starry flowers with violet-blue petals surrounding a contrasting center star of sparkling white anthers. A cross between two distinct species, 'Violet Stardust' is considered a "bush form," non-vining Clematis, which can be grown as a rambler on the ground where it might reach 2 feet tall, spreading to 3 or 4 feet wide, but can also be grown a small obelisk, short fence or other support where it might reach 3 to 3.5 feet tall. Violet Stardust is excellent for growing in garden beds or containers on or near patios, porches, decks, and other outdoor sitting and living spaces where its profusion of cute flowers from late spring through mid-summer can be enjoyed from close up.

Growing 2 to 3 feet tall and 2 to 4 feet wide, the Violet Stardust Clematis is ideal for use as an accent in small garden spaces or pots, planters, and other containers or as a low border, filler, or groundcover in larger spaces. It is excellent for growing on a short obelisk, fence, or other structure where it might reach 3.5 feet tall. It is a fine addition to Clematis gardens, blue or purple theme gardens, perennial gardens and borders, and cottage gardens.

Suggested Spacing:  2 to 3 feet apart to cover a fence or as a groundcover; 5 feet or more apart for space between plants

Violet Stardust Clematis is easy to grow in moist but well-drained soils of average fertility and full sun to part shade. Though it tolerates dry periods when established, it will appreciate an occasional watering in prolonged periods of dry weather. Make sure not to plant this one too deep as it tends to smother the plant. Though it does not require pruning, it responds well to it.
