Description
The Waldbrunn Dwarf Colorado Spruce is a miniature selection with needle color like no other. The young shoots of this variety look especially decorative with a pleasant shade of rich jade-green, which contrasts nicely with last year's soft silvery-gray. When all grown up, it forms a dense mound of maybe 3 feet tall and 5 feet wide. Ultra-low maintenance, handsome, and extremely cold hardy to -40F, Waldbrunn is ideal for sunny, small rock gardens and small garden spaces.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing very slowly to 30 inches tall and maybe 5 feet wide at maturity, the Waldbrunn Dwarf Colorado Spruce is ideal for use as an accent specimen in small garden spaces, home foundation plantings, conifer or rock gardens, and containers. It is a fine addition to conifer gardens, blue theme gardens, alpine gardens, native gardens, and the Xeriscape (low water needs).
Suggested Spacing: 7 feet or more apart in spaced groupings
Growing Preferences
The Waldbrunn Dwarf Colorado Spruce is easy to grow in a damp to moist but well-drained soil of average fertility. As with many other conifers, constantly soggy or wet soils can lead to root rot or other harmful plant diseases. So make sure to plant this one in well-drained soil. Established plants have good drought tolerance. It grows best in full sun, with at least 6 hours or more of direct sunlight daily. Once established, water needs are pretty low when growing in the ground. In pots, soil moisture must be monitored more closely, especially during summer. When the top two inches of soil is dry, provide water.
