Description

The Perennial Plant Associations Perennial Plant of the Year in 2007, 'Walkers Low' Catmint is a super hardy perennial plant that produces abundant, long-lasting spikes of lovely periwinkle blue flowers that cover the fragrant, compact mound of finely textured, gray-green foliage all summer long. A very easy to grow and drought tolerant plant that is deer and rabbit resistant, Walkers Low is an eye-catching border plant and exceptionally pretty when cascading over walls or container edges or around boulder in rock gardens or around the garden pond. Hummingbirds, butterflies and other pollinators will thank you for planting this one!

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing 2 to 2.5 feet tall and 2 to 3 feet wide, Walkers Low Catmint is ideal for use as an accent, in grouping or mass plantings, or as a border along walkways. Also nice as a solo or mixed with other sun-loving plants in pots, planters or other containers. Plant it near patios, decks, porches and other outdoor living areas where the fragrance and the pretty blue flowers can be enjoyed from close up. A natural choice for herb gardens and a fine addition to coastal areas, fragrance gardens, blue theme gardens and rock gardens.

Note:  For our customers who live and garden north of USDA Plant Hardiness Zone 4a, where this Catmint variety is not reliably winter hardy, you'll be happy to know it can be grown in containers that can be brought indoors during winter and placed back outside when temperatures warm up in spring.

Growing Preferences

Walkers Low Catmint is easy to grow in most any somewhat loose and moist to somewhat dry soil of average fertility and full to mostly sun. Plants will tolerate some shade but foliage won't be as dense. Grows well in full sun to part shade. It will tolerate dry periods, but flowers best with a moist soil. Does not like constantly soggy or wet soil.
