Description

A large and stately ornamental grass that is exceptionally easy to grow, the White Pampas Grass produces large fluffy white plumes atop strong stalks up to 10 feet tall that tower above impressive clumps of weeping grassy foliage. The flower plumes are excellent for cutting for use in dried flower arrangements. Exceptionally easy to grow and very drought tolerant when established. Its salt tolerance makes it ideal for use in coastal gardens.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing in a large mound 8 to 10 feet tall and nearly as wide, you'll want to make sure to give this ornamental grass plenty of room to grow. Pampas Grass is ideal for use as a specimen, in groupings, or to form a natural barrier or hedge in sunny landscape borders and coastal gardens. It looks especially nice near lakes and other bodies of water. Also useful to frame entryways or corners corners or to fill open walls in home foundation plantings. It makes for a nice solo or centerpiece in large containers of 18 inches or more in rim diameter. A fine addition to the ornamental grass garden and Xeriscape gardens (low water needs).

Suggested Spacing:  Space 6-7 feet apart for hedges; 14 feet or more apart for space between plants

Note:  For our customers who live and garden north of  USDA Plant Hardiness Zone 7a, where this Pampas Grass variety is not reliably winter hardy, you'll be happy to know it can be grown in large containers of 16 inches or more in rim diameter that can be brought indoors during winter and placed back outside when temperatures warm up in spring. Allow to go dormant in fall and cut plant back before bringing indoors.

Growing Preferences

Pampas Grass is very easy to grow in most any moist but well-drained soil of average to low fertility and full to mostly sun. Does not like constantly soggy soil. It is tolerant of salt spray so a great choice for plantings near the sea.
