Description

A tough but beautiful variety of our North American native Redbud tree, 'Whitewater' is a weeping selection clothed in the typical heart-shaped leaves but that are variegated white and green in spring. During summer, the leaves become more green, speckled in white. Just before the new leaves emerge in spring, the weeping branches become covered in vibrant, rosy purple flowers. Highly adaptable, heat and cold-tolerant (-20F), and easy to grow in most any well-drained soil and sun or partial shade, Whitewater is a spectacular specimen around patios and other outdoor sitting and living spaces where it is sure to provide a calming waterfall effect.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing 5 to 6 feet tall and 3 to 4 feet wide, the Whitewater Weeping Redbud tree is ideal for use as a focal specimen in sunny, partially shaded landscapes or woodland borders. Two can be used to frame an entrance. It is very nice around outdoor sitting and living spaces and a fine addition to white or purple theme gardens and native plant gardens.

Suggested Spacing:  Best as a specimen or use 2 to frame an entryway; if grouped we suggest spacing at least 7 feet apart

Growing Preferences

The Whitewater Weeping Redbud tree is very easy to grow in most any moist but well-drained soil of average fertility and full sun or part shade. We suggest 4 hours or more of direct sunlight per day or all-day lightly filtered sun. It has good drought tolerance when established. Redbud trees do NOT like waterlogged soil, so make sure to plant in a well-draining area. No pruning is required, though a stray or damaged branch can be removed at any time of year.
