Magnolia x loebneri 'Wildcat'

A truly magnificent flowering tree with an unrivaled spring floral display, Wildcat Magnolia wows with loads of fully double, pom-pom like flowers perched on every stem tip in mid spring. Wildcat blooms two weeks later than other star magnolias and can continue to produce flowers for up to 6 weeks during a cooler spring. The large and heavenly fragrant 4 to 5 inch diameter white flowers, sometimes blushed with soft-pink, have up to 52 petals on a single flower. Leaves emerge after flowering in a bronze tone turning to light green and then darker green as they age. Handsome bark is smooth and grey. We're not sure the mature size, but based on our observations thus far, we think Wildcat might reach 10 to 15 feet tall and 8 to 10 feet wide when all grown up. A hardy and long-lived tree, we've seen no serious problems with pests or disease on this one and the deer turn their nose up to it.
